The Company
Green Platform Corporation was formed in
2008 to address the growing problem of Data Center
inefficiency by commercializing its unique and novel
solution to vibration in the Data Center. Data center
operators recognize the two major vibration-caused problems
that Green Platform solves:

The
Storage Performance Bottleneck results in over
provisioning- While server performance and storage
capacity has grown enormously; storage performance
(throughput in MB/sec and rate in IOPS) has not kept
pace and remains a major bottleneck in the Data
Center.

Rising cost of power and cooling
Vibration is a major contributor to each
of these problems. In 2007 Green Platform first discovered
that common levels of ambient vibration in Data Centers
seriously degrade the I/O throughput of storage systems. We
suspected that if vibration slows down an I/O operation it
would also cause that same operation to require more time
and energy to complete. In 2009, in collaboration with Sun
Microsystems, Green Platform tested this premise and
validated that vibration reduces the throughput performance
of disk based storage systems by as much as 2/3!
Furthermore, we validated that the Green Platform
Anti-Vibration Platform™ is an effective solution to the
performance killing vibration in Data Centers. This
scientific validation of this “Vibration Penalty” encouraged
us to move forward building this business.
